mystery fever in doberman?

My Dobe, 4 yrs old, had a 106 fever 7/4/10 and went to the Emergency vet then my vet. Bloodwork, urine tests, x-rays all normal. His fever went down on Baytril. Mon, 8/30/10 he spiked a 104 fever so I got Baytril from my vet but his fever has not gone down. Bloodwork, urine and fecal all fine but he still has a 103-104 temp and no appetite. We live in Florida and heard that another Doberman in Fort Myers had the same problem in July. I had taken my Dobe to Fort Myers just before he got sick but live about 60 miles north. Any ideas? He is a very well bred titled dog who is Service Dog trained and his parents etc have all health checks done.
His bloodwork was normal both times, no sign of infection, he had a tick titer done but it hasn’t come back as of yet. He was on Baytril for 1 week then and 1 week and a couple of days this time plus the Metacam with another week as a possibility.
no joint pain and lungs clear, he has been examined by 3 different vets 3 different times.

If you can afford this – request that your vet give you a referral to UF College of Veterinary Medicine. They have state of the art equipment, cutting edge medical knowledge and technique. I’m not saying your 3 vets have done anything wrong….but… the dog has not been dx’d yet…so unfortunately, something unique is up with him.

Your dog’s health dilemma has gone beyond the normal scope of treatments and diagnoses. You sound like a very conscientious owner with a well loved dog.

If I were in your shoes I’d be asking for a referral to the nearest veterinary medicine college and let them have a go at him. If you do this make sure you take ALL 3 veterinarian’s chart notes etc with you so they can see what’s already been done.
