dog vaccination injection site reaction?
I just had a knight vaccinated two weeks ago. Annual vaccinations were. Rabies in a shoulder, and a combination in the other shoulder. Well, today I noticed a small cyst (about the size of a dime) at the shoulder. I have the intention to go to the vet tomorrow, but I wondered if this is something that is quite common? Good job! The veterinarian to biopsy it, because, although rare, I know that dogs can get cancer at the site of injection. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Calls to the vet biopsy should not you throw your money away. A tumor must be very aggressive to achieve this size at this time. Never seen it grow anywhere near as quickly. You're probably dealing with an abscess. They can develop even if the injection is successful. Local reactions usually surface much earlier. Abscesses due to slower that are most often composed of a buildup of white blood cells (and associated inflammation) in response to infection, so it takes time to build. The vet is likely to aspirate and culture is the content. The treatment will probably be drainage and antibiotics.
